JAMMU, Jan 14: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Legislative Assembly today stressed upon the Power Development Department (PDD) to ensure effective implementation of the Centrally sponsored flagship programmes, including Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY), Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (APDRP) and Re-structured Power Development and Reforms Programme (RAPDRP), so that the people get the benefits well in time.
The Committee, which met under the chairmanship of MLA Rafi Ahmad Mir discussed and reviewed the overall functioning of the PDD besides CAG Audit Paras pertaining to the department.
The members, Vijay Bakaya, Bashir Ahmad Magray, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, Syed Basharat Ahmad Bukhari, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, Sukhnandan Kumar, Bimla Luthra and Indu Pawar gave their valuable suggestions for the improvement of the functioning of the department.
The Committee directed the PDD authorities to gear up their field functionaries and strengthen the checking squads to curb the menace of power thefts. It directed them to follow the set norms for registering the household power connections.
The Committee called for collective efforts to improve the system and directed the PDD to ensure early repairing of damaged transformers. The members asked for avoiding unscheduled cuts and containing the Transmission and Distribution losses.
The Committee directed the officers of PDD Division Sopore to conduct the survey of Sangrama constituency for up-gradation of infrastructure and submit the report to the Committee for its scrutiny.
Threadbare discussion was held on measures taken for better power distribution, up-gradation and augmentation of infrastructure, recovery of power tariff and installation of meters in unmetered areas. The members also called for sympathetic consideration for outstanding power tariff of the poor households.
Earlier, the Principal Secretary, PDD Arun Kumar Mehta briefed the committee about the targets and achievements of the department.
Principal Accountant General, J&K, Accountant General’s Office, Dr. S.C Pandey, Director General Accounts & Treasuries Ravi Manotra, Managing Director JKSPDC, Basharat Ahmad Dhar, Development Commissioner Power, Manzoor Ahmad Salroo, all Chief Engineers of different wings of PDD and other officers and Engineers of PDD besides senior officers of Assembly Secretariat attended the meeting.
