New born baby goes missing from LD hospital

Srinagar, Oct 10: A new born baby went missing from the neonatal ward of the Srinagar’s lone maternity hospital, Lal Ded Memorial hospital last night.
The family which hails from north Kashmir’s Kupwara district and presently residing in Hamdaniya Colony, Bemina area alleged that the new born baby went missing soon after the baby was shifted to the Neonatal ward of the hospital for the check up.
As per the hospital authorities, the woman gave birth to a baby girl in the afternoon and during evening hours they shifted the baby to the Neonatal ward for routine check-up. The parents all of a sudden claimed that the baby is missing and started looking here and there but the baby was not found anywhere.
Dr. Shabir Siddique, Medical Superintendent of the hospital while admitting that a baby went missing from the hospital said that there was something fishy in the case and they have lodged FIR regarding the case and investigation has been started.
“The woman gave birth to a baby girl in the afternoon, it was a normal delivery. The family is claiming that the baby went missing when they were in the Neonatal ward of the hospital. There were three attendants accompanying the woman and they said we went for having tea in the canteen when the baby went missing. When we asked the mother of the child where was she at that time, she said she went somewhere for about twenty minutes, leaving the new born baby alone on the bed. There is something fishy in the case. We lodged the FIR in the Police Station,” he said, adding, “They were even against the lodging of FIR in the police station.”
The Station House Officer (SHO), police station Rajbagh said that they have received the application regarding the case and the further investigation has been started. A case (FIR No. 58/2018 under Section 363 RPC) has been registered in the Police Station Rajbagh.
