SRINAGAR, Jan 16: Upset over unscheduled power cuts, the residents of saffron town Pampore today staged protests against the Power Development Department (PDD).
The protesters including students and traders alleged that the frequent, long and unscheduled power cuts were subjecting them to immense inconvenience. “The electricity is playing hide and seek for the past two months mostly during the peak hours. The PDD authorities snap power supply up to 20 hours in a day. Students appearing in the examination are badly affected. We cannot prepare for the examination in the absence of electricity,” Javaid Rehman Mir, a student from Kadlabal Pampore said.
The business community also showed its concern against PDD and said it has led them to heavy losses in business. “Despite paying fat electricity bills in time PDD is not providing the continuous power supply in the area owing to huge loss to our business due to regular power cuts,” Shafeeq Ahmad, a businessman said.
The residents threatened to block National Highway if PDD failed to restore regular power supply in the area.
