UDHAMPUR, Oct 13: The two days philately exhibition organized by Postal Department Udhampur thrown open to public at Happy Model Higher Secondary School, here today.
Director Postal Services (J&K) Gaurav Srivastav was the chief guest who formally inaugurated the Exhibition while Rayees Mohammed Bhat was the guest of honour on the occasion.
The Exhibition was attended by District Information Officer, Udhampur Er. Sajad Bashir Somberia, Director Shivalik College of Education, Dr. Vikram Gulati Superintendent Head Post Office, Javaid Ahmad Haji and other officers/officials of concerned department besides staff members and students of the institution.
Over 20000 postal stamps from different periods were displayed in the philately exhibition.
While addressing the students, the chief guest said that the main objective of organizing this exhibition is to create awareness among the students about the importance of post office and postal stamps. He informed that this exhibition is open to all without any entry fee and the stamps are of various themes and keep a wealth of knowledge as they say philately is a “King of hobbies” and the “hobby of kings” it promotes peace and love in the world.
During the two day exhibition, he said that, various activities for children have been arranged by the Postal Department like letter writing competition, stamp design competition, quiz competition and philately workshop.
