AMRITSAR, Oct 14: A special seminar was organized by Amandeep Hospital, Amritsar with Rotary Clubs of Amritsar, in which the robot assisted knee replacement technique was highlighted.
Dr Avtar Singh, Chief Orthopaedics Surgeon, Amandeep Group of Hospitals, said that the problem of pain in knee of our people is much greater as compared to western countries, due to our habit of sitting and postures, sedentary life style, less exercise and with this we have now started to reduce the physical work. Due to which joints, especially knee joint, often have complaints of pain.
To avoid this, he told, the only way is to bring about a change in one’s lifestyle. But if problems of joint pain still evolve, then it should be treated on time.
Dr Singh, while pointing out the difference between traditional technique of knee replacement and robot assisted knee replacement, said with Robotic technique, there is no need to cut the bone. Just damaged part of the bone is grinded with Robot and knee replacement is done. Thus, the blood loss is very little and the natural strength of the bone remains intact.
Answering the questions of Rotary members present, Dr Avtar Singh said that robot technology is 100% successful and safe. By replacing the knee with the robotic technique, the patient has to stay in the hospital for a short period of time and he can recover very quickly and return to his work.
Speaking on the occasion, Rotarian Harpreet Singh Chawla, president, expressed hope that the programme would surely benefit all the rotary members and the society and that the group will continue to organize such programs in future also.
