Anjuman-e-Imamia demands review of SC verdict on Sections 377, 497

JAMMU, Oct 14: Anjuman e Imamia, Jammu has demanded review of Supreme Court verdict on abrogation of Section 377 and Section 497 IPC and condemned the statement of Wasim Rizvi (Chairman, Shia Waqf Board, UP).
While addressing a press conference here today, Syed Afaq Kazmi, vice president, Anjuman e Imamia Jammu, said that the abrogation of Section 377 is like we are challenging the law of nature and we are amazed that in India which has a rich cultural and traditional heritage no one yet has come forward from any section of society to condemn this act.
He said Anjuman e Imamia Jammu strongly condemn this decision and appeal the Government to interfere into the matter. Supreme Court should once again think about this decision, he added.
Showqat Gujjar, president of JK Gujjar Federation, while addressing the conference, said that abrogation of Section 497 is something really not acceptable in our society. He further added that why our judiciary is passing these kinds of judgments. We are not European society, no doubt women should be given equal rights but this is something which is unacceptable.
Maulana Ali Badsha, Imaam Juma Peer Mitha Masjid, while speaking on the occasion, strongly condemned the statements of Waseem Rizvi.
Molana Sheikh Mohammad Ali Mohammadi, said that the recent verdict of Supreme Court against Section 377 and Section 497 is a threat and contradictory to the age old social and ethical values of Indian ancient culture which remained an ideal for rest of the world.
Earlier the verdict declared that Homo sexuality is not a crime and then the other verdict said that adultery is not a crime. All the religions especially Islam and sensible human beings take these acts as criminal in nature and against ethical values.
Ghulam Mohammah Noori strongly condemned the Court’s verdict and demanded to review the verdict and asked for the appropriate amendments in the law.
