Woes of border people

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Civilian bunkers resurface near LOC villages amid tensions’ DE Jan 17.
The people in border areas have been facing the brunt of Indo-Pak hosilities right from the days of partition. It was only during the last some years that they lived in atmosphere of peace and tranquillity. During Kargil war these people had to leave homes and hearths, and take shelter elsewhere. They lost cattle, land and the means to livelihood. During their life in tents they faced hot son and torrential rains. Their children could not go to schools and lost precious days of schooling. They lived in abject poverty and squlor. Though Government extended relief to them but it was not sufficient to give them a descent life. As the ceasefire came into force, they returned to their homes and started building their life once again. But this was a shortlived phenomenon. They have again started living under bunkers and fear. There is urgent need to de-escalate tension on LoC, so that the resident live a fear free life.
Yours etc…
