JAMMU, Jan 18: The Members of Legislative Council from the Panchayats Dr Shenaz Ganai and Ali Mohammad Dar today called on Panchayati Raj Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar and Minister of State for Rural Development, Vikar Rasool and highlighted the issues pertaining to the Panchayats.
The MLCs submitted a memorandum to the Ministers highlighting the demands of the Panchayats which include provision of honorarium for Sarpanchs and Panchs, life insurance cover for all Sarpanchs and Panchs, enhancement of wages for labourers working under MNREGA, provision of grant in aid type financial assistance to Panchayati Raj Institutions for making them functional, enhancement of amount of financial assistance being given under IAY in view of price hike, speeding up of Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan and provision of supporting staff for normal functioning of Panchayati Raj Institutions.
Both the Ministers assured the MLCs that the State Government was keen to strengthen the Panchayats and these issues will be examined.
