Shabir pays surprise visit to Sarwal, Gandhi Nagar hospitals

JAMMU, Jan 18: Minister of State for Health (Independent charge), Shabir Ahmed Khan today paid surprise visit to Government Hospitals Sarwal and Gandhi Nagar and took stock of the functioning of these health institutions.
He went round each section of the hospital, enquired about the available medicare facilities and interacted with the patients to get first hand information about the availability of drugs and other medical facilities being provided to the patients in the hospital.
The Health Minister instructed the concerned Medical Superintendents for ensuring all possible health care facilities to the patients with special focus on maintaining hygienic condition of the hospitals.
The Minister also inspected the functioning of Blood Bank Gandhi Nagar and Blood Unit Sarwal. He was apprised that 60 to 70 units of blood always remained available in Blood Bank Gandhi Nagar and 10 to 15 units of blood remains available in Blood Unit Sarwal for the needy patients. He was also informed that over 1000 outdoor patients are being provided medicare facilities on daily basis by these hospitals.
Mr. Shabir also inspected the construction work of 200 bedded Maternity Hospital Gandhi Nagar, coming up at a cost of Rs. 57 crore. He directed concerned executing agency for ensuring its time bound completion.
Commissioner Secretary Health, M. K. Davidi, Director Health Services, Dr. Madhu Khullar and Director Family Welfare, Dr. Kuldeep Kossar accompanied the Minister during the visit.
The Minister under scored the need for providing hassle free treatment facilities to the patients, stressed upon the administrative officers to bring complete transparency and accountability in the working of each section of the health centers.
He said health care of the people is the top most priority of the Government and any negligence in this regard from the concerned functionaries would be viewed seriously for stern action. He called upon the medicos and para-medicos to remain punctual to their duties for convenience of the patients. He cautioned that any complaint received from the people about the non punctuality of the hospital staff should be taken seriously for stringent action.
Later, the Minister received the appraisal about the several programmes and policies initiated for upgradation of health care facilities in the Jammu division at a meeting.
The Minister asked the concerned authorities for bringing in more reforms in the Department to infuse efficiency, transparency and above all a qualitative change in the patient care at these tertiary care hospitals. He said improvement of services in terms of patient care, medication and other facilities at hospitals is as important as strengthening basic infrastructure at these health institutions.
