Balbir Singh meets CS, highlights shortage of drinking water

KATHUA, Oct 29: Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) and senior Congress leader Thakur Balbir Singh today met Chief Secretary, B V R Subhramnayam and apprised him of the problems being faced by the residents of Kathua.
During his meeting with Chief Secretary, Thakur Balbir Singh sought to draw his attention towards acute shortage of potable water in Kathua district. He said that over 90 percent of the hand-pumps installed by the previous Government in the Kathua were not working. He also mentioned that residents of the Kathua were confronting with the problem with aute scarcity of the drinking water and sought immediate attention of Chief Secretary towards solving this issue.
Singh further informed Chief Secretary that various schemes launched by the PHE Department in Kathua district are confined only on papers and on ground nothing has been done. He said that majority of the schemes are defunct.
Chief Secretary admitted that he has received reports about shortage of drinking water. He assured that authorities would take immediate steps to solve their problem once for all. He said that officers have already been directed to solve this problem immediately.
Singh drew attention of Chief Secretary towards deteriorating health sector in Kathua district and demanded deployment of para medical staff and doctors in health centres of Kathua to make health sector functional. He said that most of the hospitals and health sectors have become referral centres to refer patients to either Jammu or Punjab.
