Major tragedy averted due to timely action of fire fighters

JAMMU, Oct 30: Timely and swift action by Fire and Emergency Services Station, Roop Nagar, Jammu averted a major fire tragedy today in Roop Nagar area.
As soon as a call was received by Fire and Emergency Services Station Roop Nagar at 1.53 PM that a shop belonging to Shoba Devi wife of Shankar Mandal (a migrant), Fire Station swiftly turned out with Fire Tender and reached the spot within 4 minutes and doused the flames without any delay.
The leaked gas cylinder which was on fire and could have exploded and caused more damage and loss, was immediately removed by Fire Fighting crew with the help of ceiling hook under the supervision of Kanwal Peshin, Incharge, Fire Service Station, Roop Nagar along with Bhopinder Singh (LFM), Ghar Singh (Fireman), Vimal Raina (Fireman) and MD Rakesh Singh.
As the shop was in close vicinity of Geeta Satsangh Ashram Muthi and Government Higher Secondary school for migrants Muthi, a little delay could have damaged a lot of adjacent property of Ashram and the Government School.
No loss of life or any injury was reported in the fire. However, some property including refrigerator, ceiling fan and some house hold items along with roof of the shop suffered damages due to fire. Approximate cost of property in the shop was nearly Rs 3 lakh and property worth 2.85 lakh was saved.
RC Raina, Deputy Director was in close touch with the Fire Fighting crew during the Fire Fighting operation, which was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Director, F&ES Command, Jammu.
