IIPA organises workshop on ‘urban development & urban service delivery’

JAMMU, Jan 19: A one day workshop on “Urban Development and Urban Service Delivery’ was organised today by IIPA, J&K Regional Branch, Jammu. Nawang Rigzin Jora, Minister for Urban Development, J&K was the chief guest and Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary, Home Deptt. was guest of honour.
Minister in his address said that deliberations of the workshop would be important in conatct to Urbanisations process in the State. He said that workshop deliberations will provide useful feedback for the future. Suresh Kumar, presented a brief background of urban sector reforms in the State with particular reference to e-Governance initiatives. These reforms have promoted a sense of transparency and accountability in the urban governance in the State.
Prof K.K. Pandey IIPA, New Delhi presented theme paper and elaborated the global and national focus on urban development. He said that urbanisations is inevitable and has a positive link with economics development.  Y. Sachdeva from RITES made a presentation on Traffic and Transportation in Jammu and Srinagar.  Vinod Malhotra Former Development Commissioner, T.P.O presented a case study of Haryana and Gujarat to show their experience of trban land management.
Sarita Chauhan, VC JDA gave a presentation on planning and development control of Jammu city.  Sourav Bhagat, , CEO ERA shared valuable experience on development of water supply, solid waste management, roads and transport etc  in Jammu, Srinagar and few other towns.
Earlier Er. V.N.Sharma welcomed more than 75 participants of different departments – Municipal Corporation Srinagar and Jammu, JDA Housing Board, Urban Local Bodies and TPO.
Dr Ashok Bhan, Chairman IIPA, J&K Regional Branch indicated the importance of subject and expressed hope that a wide range of stake holders who participated in the workshop will continue to cooperate for the further development of urban sector in J&K.
