KATRA, Nov 2: A Junior Engineer of the R&B Department was killed while his wife critically injured when a Scorpio vehicle met head on collision with a passenger bus near Aghar Jitto on Katra- Reasi Road this morning.
The mishap took place at around 6.30 am when the, Junior Engineer , Mehraj Din (52), son of Haji Mohd Yousuf, resident of Shajru ( Mahore) was going to Mahore along with his wife, Shameem Akhtar from Jammu. He was posted in Mahore R&B Division at present.

Police sources said that JE’s Scorpio vehicle No. JK 20/6575 was in speed and it collided with a bus No. JK02BL/3247, coming from Reasi towards Jammu. The collision took place at Dhidi Morh near Aghar Jitto. His wife was also sitting beside him at front left seat. The impact of collision was so powerful that about half of the Scorpio vehicle was extensively damaged.
They both got trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle and were removed by people and police with tough efforts and rushed to Katra hospital, where Mehraj was declared as dead.
His wife, Shameem was provided treatment at CHC Katra and then referred to GMC Hospital, Jammu. Her condition was said to be serious. The police has taken cognizance of the matter. The dead body of the Engineer was handed over to the family after post-mortem and performing other legal formalities by Katra police.
