National Legal Services Day observed across J&K

JAMMU, Nov 9: Under the aegis of NALSA and as per the directions of Chief Justice and Patron-In-Chief J&K SLSA, Justice Gita Mittal and under the able leadership & guidance of Justice Aloke Aradhe, Executive Chairman, J&K SLSA, National Legal Services Day was observed across the State today.
The aim of observing Legal Services Day was to keep the constitutional pledge of protecting the interests of marginalized sections of the society.
The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Jammu, under the chairmanship of Vinod Chatterji Koul, (Principal District & Sessions Judge), Jammu observed the National Legal Services Day and kick-started the 10 day-long ‘Door-To-Door Campaign’ in district Jammu to provide legal assistance at the door steps of the poor and marginalized sections of the society with the active participation of Para Legal Volunteers and Retainer Lawyers of the district.
In order to achieve the objectives of the campaign that is to spread legal awareness at every nook and corner of the district, it was directed that the teams of Para Legal Volunteers headed by Retainer Advocates shall systematically visit slums, colonies of migrant labourers besides economically, educationally and socially backward villages.
The teams were asked to reach out to the weaker, downtrodden and aggrieved masses of the society and identify persons who are in need of legal assistance and shall take immediate steps for providing legal assistance to them.
DLSA Reasi under the chairmanship of SR Gandhi, Chairman, DLSA (Principal District and Sessions Judge) Reasi, observed the Day in District Court Complex Reasi. On the occasion, a Lok Adalat was held. The camp was attended by SR Gandhi, VS Manhas, Sub-Judge, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Chairman, Tehsil Legal Services Committee Reasi, Rimpi Rani, Munsiff Reasi, KK Dubey, PD Singh, MS Mir, president, Bar Association Reasi, advocates, Retainer Lawyers and Para Legal Volunteers.
Speaking on the occasion, speakers threw light on different NALSA & SLSA Scheme. Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), also made people aware about Lok-Adalats, Pre-litigation system and different schemes launched by NALSA and SLSA for the benefit of people.
The Day was also observed in District Court Complex Poonch wherein Principal District & Sessions Judge, Poonch, Zabair Ahmed Raza, Chairman DLSA, Rahul Yadav, DDC Poonch, Mohd Ashraf Khan, Chief CJM, Chairman, Tehsil Legal Services Authority (TLSA), Adnan Sayeed, Special Mobile Magistrate, Poonch, Wajahat Kazmi, Munsiff JMIC, Secretary, TLSA Poonch, Bar president, Mohd Zaman, Bar members, litigants, citizens and Para Legal Volunteers participated.
National Legal Services Day was also observed in Munsiff JMIC Court, Thanamandi. A detailed programme to highlight the Legal Service Awareness Day was held under the directions of Principal District & Sessions Judge/Chairman DLSA Rajouri, Shahzad Azeem, in which Manzoor Ahmed Khan (Munsiff JMIC, Thanamandi/Chairman TLSC Thanamandi) and Tabraiz Ahmed Qazi (District Judicial Mobile Magistrate, Rajouri) along with retainer lawyers, Bar members, litigants and other citizens participated.
To observe the ‘National Legal Services Day’, Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Ramnagar organized a Legal Awareness Camp and Lok Adalat here in the premises of Sub Judge Court Complex, Ramnagar.
The function was presided over by Chairman, Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Ramnagar, Anjum Ara. During his address, the Chairman informed the participants about the right of the people under the Legal Services Authority Act. The participants were also educated about the concept of the Lok Adalat and procedure to register/refer cases in the Lok Adalat.
During the Lok Adalat, a total number of 28 cases were taken up out of which 14 cases were disposed off on spot while 47 traffic challans were also disposed off and fine of Rs 2350 was recovered on spot.
Among others, Tehsildar Ramnagar, Vikram Kumar besides members of Bar Association and a large number of people attended the camp.
