SRINAGAR, Nov 22: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) today attacked Governor Satya Pal Malik over the “undemocratic” decision to dissolve the State Assembly.
JKPCC chief, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, told a news conference here that Governor kept the House in suspended animation to “facilitate horse trading” by the BJP and its allies to form the Government.
“It was an undemocratic decision by the Governor when three parties came together to stake claim for the Government. It is simple murder of democracy in this sensitive State,” Mir said adding “it has sent a wrong message to the people”.
Mir said demands by political parties in the past for dissolution of the State Assembly were turned down even though they had made it clear that none of them was in the position to form the Government. “But he (Malik) said that he can run the assembly in suspended animation till 2020,” he said.
“He was facilitating the BJP and its allies in Kashmir (so) that they should bulldoze other parties, arrange numbers through horse trading and allow them to form the Government,” Mir alleged.
He said the move to dissolve the State Assembly after the PDP, Congress and NC alliance staked claim raised questions about the Governor’s office. “Our alliance did not suit the BJP and the Central Government. The Assembly was dissolved on their directions,” he alleged.
Mir said that the dissolution of Assembly after political developments indicate the frustration of Governor’s bosses in New Delhi, saying that they don’t want secular like-minded people to form the Government in Jammu and Kashmir. “The Alliance between NC, PDP and Congress didn’t suit BJP and the Central Government, therefore they directed for the dissolution of Assembly,” he alleged.
“The situation could have been different if BJP could have staked claim for Government formation” he said, adding that nothing is wrong with the people of Jammu and Kashmir but everything is wrong with the system put in place by New Delhi in the State.
Mir said that the political parties had earlier demanded dissolution of the assembly but the voices remained unheard. “Governor had recently said that he can run the Assembly in suspended animation till 2020 but the only thing is that he was facilitating BJP and its allies in Kashmir to arrange numbers through horse-trading and allow them to form the Government,” he added.
