Srinagar, Nov 25: The construction work on the power receiving station at Goom Ahmad Pora in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district has not been completed even after 5 years of approval while authorities blamed meagre funding for the delay.
The locals said that official apathy marred the project while as authorities maintained scarcity of funds slowed the pace of work.
In 2013, the Government planned to improve electricity in the area by building a receiving station. Besides, the receiving station would have reduced the power loss and maintenance cost of electric lines. However, the work was suspended due to lack of funds, dashing the hopes of residents.
The residents said that construction work was pending for years due to an alleged lackadaisical attitude of the department. “The PDD officials made the promises with the dignities of the area that they will be given facilities but did not keep their word. The negligent attitude of PDD department has failed the initiate,” Murtaza Rizwi, a local said, adding the people were facing immense hardships due to official apathy.
The locals lamented that they were promised construction of receiving station but the attitude of authorities let them down. “Government constructed Grid Station at Goom Ahmad Pora and made promises to the locals that they will be given all facilities regarding electricity. However, Receiving Station, poles, street lights and conductor have not been provided to the Area,” another local said.
The locals said that they would hit streets if the Government did not fulfill their demands. “If the government fails to deliver this time we will hit the streets and administration will be responsible for its consequences,” a local said.
