Sir,
The decision taken by the Governor, dissolving the State Legislative Assembly invited mixed reactions from different political parties in the State.
These parties not once but on several occasions harped for dissolution of Assembly but were preparing themselves for Govt formation in the State. As said by the Governor that horsetrading and underhand dealings were on to form alliance towards Govt formation. The exercise of sale and purchase of MLAs’ by the political parties to form the Govt in the State was unethical and would undermine the development process presently going in the State.
Governor has taken a bold decision and dissolved Assembly which was put under suspended animation. Keeping Assembly in suspended amination would continue burdening the State’s exchequer which is not good. The Governor had realised that any arrangement with regard to formation of Government would not be stable for the people of the State.
It is welcomed by the civil society of the State that after a gap of 14 years elections of local bodies were conducted in a peaceful manner and in my opinion under the Governors rule Panchayat elections will also end peacefully.
The endeavour of present dispensation in the State is to create peaceful situation so that all the regions of the State meet justice. Who would deny the good work done by the present Governor in the State and his efforts towards welfare programmes that are in line for the State? We hope that during his tenure Assembly elections would be held, and a stable Government formed for the sake people.
S N Raina
