Sports at grassroot level

Sir,
Refer news item ‘Need to enhance sports at grassroot level’ DE Jan 23.
The Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din has hit the bull when he stated that every school should have a playing ground and a playing team in at least three disciplines-cricket, football and hockey.
The Minister has rightly diagnosed the disease and has suggested a remedy. The poor State of sports in the State is largely due to the fact that no importance is attached to games at grassroot level.
Most of the schools do not have playing ground. Whereever these exist, student there do not have coaches to guide them. If ever any sports programme is held, it is just to kill time.
There is no sincere effort on part of the school authorities to inculcate spirit of sports among students who are keen to take parts in sports.
Yours etc….
