MENDHAR, Jan 24: Property worth lakhs was destroyed in a major fire in a sweet shop at Darana Chowk here last night.
The fire broke out at around 1 am midnight. The policemen during patrolling noticed the dense clouds of smoke coming from the shop and sounded alert. They informed Fire Service men and also alerted the senior officers. The shops belonged to one Babu Singh. The police and firemen managed to remove the LPG cylinders from the shop after breaking lock fearing explosion. The Fire tenders took about two hours to control the fire. Property worth lakhs was said to have destroyed in the blaze.
Police said the shopkeeper had left a candle burning inside and the fire apparently spread from it. Extensive loss of property has been claimed by the owner.
