SRINAGAR, Jan 24: While appreciating the recommendations of Justice J S Verma Committee about the revocation of AFSPA, the Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies (KCSDS), conveyed its gratitude for acknowledging the crime perpetuated by men in uniform in the conflict zones because of unbridled powers.
The members also said that it was now on the shoulders of State Government to support whole heartily and press for this law to pass in Parliament.
“Lobbying is needed by all civil society members, ruling party, opposition and other players to press for its implementation,” the members said. The members also said, “We saw these reports in the past and then were not implemented on ground, but today Central Government and State Government should realize that people of State should be treated as humans.”
Meanwhile, MLA Langate Er Rasheed has also asked New Delhi to revoke the AFSPA from J&K and North East States. He said that New Delhi has an opportunity to make an announcement in this regard on the eve of January 26.
Addressing a press conference here Rasheed asked the Central Government to offer a ceasefire to United Jihad Council on Nagaland pattern and to start a meaningful dialogue with it so that an honorable solution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue is reached upon.
Taking a dig at the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on his statement about the Justice Verma Committee report, MLA Langate asked that how the Chief Minister can advocate AFSPA repealing when he needs to convene an all party meeting to implement the Verma report. He said that instead of befooling the people in the name of meetings, CM should take some practical steps to make people feel relieved.
