JAMMU, Nov 30: As over 4000 contempt petitions are pending against the Government in Srinagar Wing of the High Court only, the Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam has directed the Administrative Secretaries to promptly take a well informed decision in each case.
“During hearing of a matter in open court in Srinagar, the Chief Justice has observed that approximately 4000 contempt petitions are pending before the High Court at Srinagar thereby indicating that the Government is not complying with the directions of the court”, the Chief Secretary said in a communication addressed to all Administrative Secretaries.
The Chief Justice has further observed that in case the directions issued by the court are not complied with, the court will be constrained to summon the Administrative Secretaries and Heads of the Departments for non-compliance from the next week, the Chief Secretary further said.
Accordingly, the Chief Secretary has directed all the Administrative Secretaries to immediately review the contempt petitions pending against their departments both at Jammu and Srinagar Wings of the High Court and take a well informed decision in each of these cases in consultation with the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and ensure compliance with the court’s directions.
