Srinagar, Dec 2: Employees of Jammu and Kashmir Bank today protested against the Government’s order to treat Jammu and Kashmir Bank as Public Sector Undertaking and demanded its revocation.
Scores of employees of the bank assembled at its corporate headquarters on M A Road and staged a demonstration, under the banner of All India J-K Bank Officers Federation, to demand a rollback of the SAC order. The employees who had come from different parts of the Valley raised slogans in support of their demands. They were carrying banners and placards that read “roll back the decision”.
While terming the decision as “unjustified” and “unwarranted”, Tassaduq Jeelani, president of the federation, said that they would continue the protests until the decision is rolled back. “We demand that the SAC rollback its decision as soon as possible and we will not let this decision be implemented on the J-K Bank,” he said.
He added that the protests would intensify if the decision is not taken back at the earliest. “We would go to any extent to save our bank,” he said, adding they would close down the bank if the government fails to fulfill their demands.
Sameena, an employees of the Bank, said that the decision has come as a curse for them. “The decision will affect the economic empowerment of the society as the bank has been doing it for years,” she said.
