JAMMU, Dec 3: Appreciating the decision of declaring J&K Bank a PSU, Jammu Province People’s Forum (JPPF) has urged the Governor to initiate detailed enquiry about the functioning of the bank and make bad loans public.
JPPF, in an emergency meeting headed by Paviter Singh, president JPPF, resolved that the step taken by Governor to declare J&K Bank a PSU is a commendable job he has done. “The Governor has not done anything wrong by declaring Jammu and Kashmir Bank a PSU. In fact he has brought the truth in front of the public because the bank by virtue of its constitution and share holding is already a PSU but the people sitting at the helm of the affairs kept on misusing the bank as per their convenience. It seems there is something fishy that’s why the people who are afraid of getting exposed are now trying to pressurize to roll back. Even the RBI is also not satisfied with the working of the bank and has imposed penalty on the organization,” observed JPPF.
JPPF also appealed the Governor to initiate detailed enquiry about the functioning of the bank and make bad loans public. “All NPAs should be made public and the process of recovery be initiated. Even the recruitments made by the bank needs to be checked and hence forth a transparent system be made available to the masses,” JPPF said and further urged the Governor to ask Chairman J&K Bank to initiate action against protesting employees of the bank or be ready to get replaced himself.
It was also discussed in the meeting that Maharaja Hari Singh, who founded this bank, was not given honor by the people sitting at the helm of affairs. “Even on the foundation day of the bank, the founder is not remembered and it is really painful,” JPPF said and appealed the Governor to pass an order to J&K Bank that all branches should have a nicely framed photo of the founder respectfully placed at an appropriate place.
JPPF members, who shared their views in the meeting, included M S Katoch, Narayan Singh, Krishan Singh, Avinash Bhatia, M L Sharma, Inderjeet Khajuria, Gurmit Singh, Naresh Thapar, Resham Singh, Balwan Singh, Ram Rattan Sharma, S Rajinder Singh and others.
