JAMMU, Dec 3: Former UGC Chairman Prof Ved Parkash today delivered the inaugural University of Jammu Benchmark Series Lecture under RUSA (Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan) in collaboration with Human Resource Development Centre, University of Jammu.
In his lecture, Prof Ved Prakash said that autonomy was crucial for the growth and development of higher education. He underlined the fact that even after India got freedom in 1947, the first national policy on Education came in 1985. “In the era of technology, things are changing fast. Country needs new inclusive national policy on Education,” he stressed.
Prof Ved Prakash also talked about evolution of access to education and called upon younger faculty to make utmost use of Information Technology to make learning more fruitful as well as affordable for everyone. “The country needs Research specific universities and has to be truly international,” he said and suggested that in the State of J&K, every region can have one university dedicated to research to produce most scientific and talented workforce.
Prof Manoj K Dhar, Vice-Chancellor JU, in his presidential remarks, said that the University is setting the target of 25 to 30 odd more lectures every year by imminent academician and the personalities thereby implying that University is setting the target of one lecture subject wise every month by a person of imminence. He stressed that zenith of learning should be outcome based, student centric and further to revive value based education and curriculum.
Prof Naresh Padha, Coordinator, RUSA, outlined the objective of the programme.
Earlier, Prof J P S Joorel, Director, HRDC, JU, delivered the welcome address.
Ranjeet Kalra, Teaching faculty at HRDC, introduced the Key Note Speaker Prof Ved Prakash to the audience and also delivered the formal vote of thanks as concluding remarks.
Among others, Prof Jigar Mohd, Dean Research Studies, Prof Keshav Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Kulwant Singh, Controller of Examinations, faculty members, Scholars and students were also present on the occasion. Dr Bindu Raina from Physics Dept conducted proceedings of the function.
