UDHAMPUR, Dec 5: Up in arms against felling of green trees in Battal Ballian Industrial area, locals held a protest and demanded stern action against the erring industries violating the pollution norms.
The agitating people assembled on the main road near Industrial complex and started protest demonstration against the District Administration, Forest Department and District Industries Department. They alleged that several cement and pesticide units installed in the area were creating massive pollution and were responsible for felling of trees.
“About 15 red category units are working in the area emanating slow poison into the environment and now the cutting of about one hundred green trees is multiplying the air pollution level, which has already crossed danger mark here,” they said.
Later, Tehsildar Udhampur Ved Prakash and SHO Udhampur Sanjeev Singh Chib and other officials reached the spot and assured that action will be taken against those responsible for felling of green trees and FIR will also be registered in this regard.
