JAMMU, Dec 5: Danesh Dogra, Gurmeet Kaur, Vijay Goswami, the trio of winter capital’s seasoned actors lit up Markand Deshpande’s Hindi play, ‘Sir Sir Sarla’, with a well-knit performance at the Abhinav Theatre, here today.
Directed by Vijay Goswami, and staged by Pancham Society for Art, Culture & Social Development, the play tells the story of a Professor Palekar, and his two most beloved students, the pretty Sarla and the seemingly unimpressive Fanidhar. Flitting between the past (when they were his students) and the present, the play traces their lives, which remain interwoven, even though the time has moved.
The Professor and Sarla are attracted to each other while Fanidhar loves Sarla. This triangle of human relationships weaves interplay of mutual attraction, commonalities of tastes verses non-compatibility and mismatch, that defines the life of many who must go on to live their designated roles.
The performance by Danesh Dogra as Professor, Gurmeet Kaur as ‘Sarla’, and Vijay Goswami, as ‘Fanidahr’ was marked by a skillful rendering of dialogues supported by voice modulation, body movements and good use of props. The manner in which all the actors managed to strike a balance between intensity and subtleness of emotions which never surface openly but lurk underneath as pulsating presence, captivated the audience. The thoughtful set and light design and subtle background music helped the actors to realize their intended potential.

Tomorrow on the penultimate day of the drama festival, Shivani Cultural Society will perform Ardhakavya-Hadsa Haqeeqat.
