JAMMU, Dec 8: Congress party today favoured the creation of a separate division for Ladakh region in view of its administrative accessibilities, locational disadvantages and vast area but raised doubts about the timing and procedure for the same, during Governor’s rule.
Reacting to the situation arising out of this issue, JKPCC in a statement said that Ladakh region has a long pending demand for upgradation of administrative facilities and creation of separate division in view of various hardships faced by the people of the frontier area.
“The demand was put forth forcefully by the people of Leh and Kargil during the visit of high powered Congress Policy and Planning Group headed by Dr Manmohan Singh during its visit and it found favour in view of its justification based on various qualifying parameters,” the statement said.
“However in view of the timing and procedure for the same, there is bound to be some controversies and resentment in various other areas deserving to be considered for the similar demands of better administrative convenience,” the JKPCC statement said, adding, the major policy decisions need to be considered when an elected Government is in place so that the demands and aspirations of every area is duly considered on its own merit for just decision.
The party cautioned the people against any attempt to create division in the background of the situation as the broader unity of the State and all three regions is to be maintained at all costs, while respecting the aspirations of the various heterogeneities in the State and its regions. “The party opposed any attempt to create disunity or disharmony in the society under the garb of seeking administrative facilities,” the statement further said.
