LEH, Dec 13: Chief Executive Councilor (CEC)/ Chairman, LAHDC Leh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal has strongly demanded separate Administrative Division for Ladakh.
In a letter written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Namgyal said various delegations from across the spectrum in Ladakh has been approaching the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh urging it to take up the demand of carving out a separate Division for Ladakh comprising Leh and Kargil districts.
Namgyal informed PM that a delegation of LAHDC Leh also raised this demand before Governor SP Malik on December 3, 2018 at Raj Bhawan, Jammu after a resolution demanding Divisional status for Ladakh was passed by the House of LAHDC Leh in a special session convened recently.
“Ladakh occupies 69.9% geographical area of whole of the Jammu and Kashmir State. There is no commonality among Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh and the region remains cut off from the State capital for more than six months during winter season,” the letter read.
It further read that the demand for carving out a separate administrative Division for Ladakh has also been felt because that constant disturbance in the Kashmir valley since three decades has been harming the Ladakh region economically, educationally and service-wise.
“The Kashmir issue is restricted only in the Valley and is of no concern to the people of this region. But Kashmir centric Governments have brought more miseries than benefits to the people of this region. The fund allocations, various packages that the Central Government releases from time to time have not been distributed judiciously and equivocally,” the CEC said in the letter.
Stating further that Valley based political parties and Kashmir centric leadership of J&K are trying to create hurdle in carving out a separate administrative Division for Ladakh region, Namgyal said, “Since Government of India is presently directly looking after the affairs of the State through Governor of J&K, we urge you to fulfill our demand of carving out a separate Administrative Division for Ladakh”.
