Cloth merchant killed in road mishap

KATHUA, Dec 17: A cloth merchant was killed after a speedy minibus hit him at Purnala in Billawar tehsil of Kathua district while he was trying to board another minibus this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Gagan Deep, 45, son of Jawahar Lal of Gurdaspur, neighboring Punjab. He was selling the clothes from door to door in the area. This morning when he tried to board a minibus at Purnala another minibus which was in high speed and tried to overtake the vehicle that had stopped for dropping and boarding of passengers at the Purnala stop hit him who died on spot. However the drivers of both the mini buses fled after the accident.
The dead body was shifted by Billawar Police to Sub District Hospital, Billawar where from after autopsy it was handed over to its family members who came from Gurdaspur to receive the body after contacted by police.
The Billawar police has seized both the mini buses and started a manhunt to arrest the drivers. The people of the area have also expressed grave concern over the accident and accused the Traffic Police for its total failure in maintaining a check on over speeding vehicles especially mini buses whose drivers in their pursuit to board more and more passengers play with the lives of people.
