AKHNOOR, Dec 18: Former minister and senior Congress leader Sham Lal Sharma today accused BJP of misleading the nation with hollow slogans as it has failed to fulfill its poll promises.
Addressing public meeting at village Godhan in Akhnoor today, Sharma said that BJP was misleading the nation on various fronts as it has literally failed on its poll promises and now spreading falsehood. He charged the BJP Government with serving the interests of big Corporate houses only.
The Congress leader further said that the people across the country particularly youth and farmers have strong resentment against the Government which was proved by routing out the BJP from power in the recently concluding Assembly elections in Rajasthan, MP and Chhattisgarh.
While coming down heavily on BJP Government’s monetary policy, Sharma said that the last four years have been extremely challenging. He termed demonetisation a “monumental disaster of epic proportions” which failed to achieve any of the stated objectives.
“There is ample evidence which suggests demonetisation was a dubious scheme meant to convert black money into white,” Sharma said adding it was a “deliberate and well designed” attack on savings of small traders, farmers and housewives.
The slogans of ‘Sab ka Saath, Sab ka Vikas’ and ‘Na Khaoonga, Na Khaane Doonga’ are only and only drama and a trick to grab power,” he said, referring to BJP’s promises of inclusive development and corruption-free governance.
He further said that the Congress was fighting the Modi Government and the people have begun to realise that the promises made by the BJP in 2014 were hollow. He said that because of various policies and programmes of the UPA Government, India emerged as a strong nation.
Sharma said the “divisive politics” of BJP and certain other forces were against the pluralistic feature of this nation and added that secularism alone can maintain the unity and integrity of the country.
Sharma appealed the Governor to hold the State Assembly elections in a peaceful manner like the previous Panchayati elections so that the people get rid of the hardships which they are facing presently in absence of democratic institutions.
