Ring Road Project faces protest in Bhalwal village

JAMMU, Dec 21: Demanding fair compensation for their land and property, residents of Kangrail village, Bhalwal today resisted demolition of some structures that come under alignment of semi-ring road project.
The said road will to pass from Kangrail village but locals alleged that they haven’t been paid any compensation by Government.
The protesting villagers staged a protest demonstration and raised slogans against the Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar and officials of National Highway Authority of India.
Sources informed that officials of Tehsil office Bhalwal, police, CRPF and some employees of the construction company today visited village Kangrail to start demolish of some residential and commercial structures in the village for facilitating the proposed road but all of a sudden locals raised hue and cry.
The officials tried to persuade the locals to allow them to work but the irked villagers paid no heed.
“Government is trying to snatch my 26 kanals of agriculture and commercial land. We won’t allow Govt to snatch our land and property. Government of J&K must repeal its 84 year old Land Acquisition Act and enact a new law similar to Central Act or the Central Land Acquisition Act should be extended to J&K,” said Rajiv Sharma-a resident of Godasinghu village.
