DC Jammu awards best performing deptts during Jhiri Mela

JAMMU, Dec 22: Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, today awarded best performing departments during annual Jhiri Mela on the occasion of closing ceremony of the Mela.
Horticulture Department bagged first prize for exhibiting best stall while 2nd and 3rd prizes were given to Agriculture and Floriculture departments, respectively. Besides presenting awards to these departments, the DC also awarded individual performers of various departments as well as participating departments. He also gave away prizes to Civil Defence Volunteers.
On behalf of Horticulture Department, the award was received by Kirtan Singh Raina, Chief Horticulture Officer (CHO), Jammu, along with Ashwani Sharma (DL-SMS Jammu) and HDO Satwari, Davinder Singh and HDO Khour, Sandeep Sharma.
While speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner that Government is preparing a roadmap to promote this annual event as a major pilgrimage destination. He said stalls established by various departments during the Mela helps in promoting various centrally and State sponsored schemes among the people.
Earlier, the programme started with distribution of trophies/momentos to Deputy Commissioner Jammu, SDM Marh, ACD Jammu and other dignitaries present on the occasion.
Pertinently, the week-long Jhiri Mela is organized every year at Jhiri in which lakhs of devotees from different parts of the state as well as neighboring states participate and pay tributes to Baba Jitto, who fought against the archaic system of exploitation and for the cause of marginalized farmers.
SDM Marh, Sarpanch of Panchayat Kalyanpur, Mulkh Raj and Member Mela Committee, Jhiri, Ashok Mahajan and Tehsildar Marh were also present.
