JAMMU, Dec 24: Ch.Manmohan Singh, former Mayor Jammu and State president of AIJMS, today met with DC Samba, Sushma Chauhan and discussed issues regarding displaced families of 1965-1971 with her. He informed the DC that the refugees/displaced families are facing problems in receiving relief fund of the amount of Rs 5.50 lakh, due to the delays from Revenue Department.
He informed her that the shortage of staff is creating unnecessary problems in every single file which is unethical. A file should be studied and the problems with it should be informed to the family at the same time but issues are being raised again and again for reasons unknown to these families. All this is further delaying the process, he added.
He also asked Dy. Commissioner to introduce an alternative way of verification, considering some people have lost their ration cards. Instead they can be asked to provide the documents of the land they were allotted by the Government in place of lands they lost in war. Manmohan Singh also said some families also have complaints regarding delay in release of funds and they should be given the amount soon. DC called Assistant Commissioner, Revenue and urged him to direct all the tehsildars to submit all these pending files to her office before December 31.
She also informed Singh that according to her data, there are a total of 2308 displaced families in Samba district of which 1796 families have taken the forms for relief fund. Out of these 1796 families, only 1402 families have submitted their files for the fund out of which 1190 have been given an affirmation.
DC assured Singh and his team that the remaining 212 files will be cleared before December 31.
She also said that she will make sure that no unnecessary problems arise for the files. Singh said with the intervention of DC and ACR the whole process may go smooth and be less troubling for these families. Singh requested all the displaced families who have not yet filed the forms /submitted the files for relief that they come forward soon and apply for the relief as soon as possible. He said that the amount of Rs 5.50 lakhs is very less in face of Rs 30 lakhs.
