Non availability of transport facility major issue

JAMMU : Non availability of transport facility is the major issue, which the residents of Ward Number 49 are facing.
The areas, which fall in this Ward are Sabzi Mandi, Narwal Mandi, Fruit Mandi, Transport Yard, FCI Godown, etc.
Residents said that they are facing problems including water scarcity, insanitary conditions, deplorable condition of lanes and drains, damaged street lights etc. One of the major issues, which came to the fore was non-availability of transport facility.
“In this ward, people are facing problems due to water scarcity. Drinking water is not being supplied on regular basis. Due to irregular supply of drinking water, we cannot carry out our routine work including cooking and washing, etc”, Sunita Sharma, a resident said.
“The insanitary condition in our ward needs immediate attention as it is the issue to be redressed on priority due to fear of breaking out of health related problems”, another resident said, adding that more manpower is required to tackle the insanitary issue.
The issue of dilapidated condition of the lanes and drains also came to the fore while interacting with the residents. They said that they have elected a dedicated Municipal Corporator, who will sort out the issue in the shortest possible time.
“Non-availability of transport in our ward is a major issue due to which school going children and even office going people problems”, said Munish Gupta.
When contacted second time elected Corporator of the Ward from Congress Party Kamal Singh, an ex-serviceman said that he will work for the overall development of the ward.
“All the issues including water scarcity, power, insanitary conditions, deplorable conditions of lanes and drains, damaged street lights etc will be taken up with the concerned authorities for redressal on priority basis”, he asserted.
“Around four years back, a tubewell was constructed to cater the water needs of the people, but it was not commissioned till date. I will take up the issue with the PHE Department to make the tubewell operational”, he added.
Regarding transport facility, he said that he will take up the issue with the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Jammu for redressal. This issue will also be taken up with the Governor for redressal.
