A community centre at Rajbagh, Srinagar has become a bone of contention as three persons have approached the court claiming ownership of the Government land on which the construction of the community centre is going on. The ‘row’ has resulted in stalling of the construction work on 7 kanals and 10 marlas of prime land near zero bridge, in Rajbagh area of the summer capital. The cost of construction of the Community centre is put at Rs.4 crore and the district administration has failed to get the stay on the construction vacated despite the report from the Tehsildar being in favour of the Government.
It is worth knowing that the concerned Tehsildar has given full details of the land in question being the ‘grazing land’ and ‘shamilat’ and was not in possession of anyone. The report was made, apart from on the basis of revenue records, following on the spot visit cum inspection conducted jointly by the Tehsildar, Naib Tehsildar and representatives of Roads and Buildings Department. However, notices were served upon the three “claimants”. No records of anyone, having even cultivated this land at any time, to claim any rights whatsoever, have been found out from revenue references. The District Administration should, therefore, take all necessary measures to get the stay vacated so that the construction was resumed about which Chief Engineer R&B, is otherwise ready provided orders from the court were received.
