Congress accuses BJP of betraying refugees

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Dec 29: JKPCC Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma (Ex-MLC) today lashed out at the BJP and other parties for shedding crocodile tears only for the DPs of 1947, 1965 and 1971, and Refugees of 1947 at the time of elections but has remained indifferent to their genuine demands.
“BJP Government at the Centre betrayed the refugees of 1947 and the full package recommended by then Congress-NC Government has not been sanctioned by the Modi Government,” he said in a statement, issued here today.
He said that after long struggle of these sections of the society, the Congress party succeeded in persuading State Government for recommending a package of Rs 25 lakh ex-gratia relief to each family besides three other components like reservation in professional courses and jobs in Central forces as well coverage of the left out families.
However, he added, the BJP which used to claim that it will grant not less than Rs 30 lakh per family besides sanctioning other items in the package, has befooled these DPs and Refugees, after coming to power.
“The process of disbursement of Rs 5.5 lakh to the DPs is quite unsatisfactory and still large number of families are deprived of this small amount against the full package. It was delayed as per a deliberate attempt to keep them engaged,” Ravinder Sharma said and urged for release of full package in one go, failing which BJP would face a tough time ahead.
