JAMMU, Dec 29: Anti-Corruption Bureau has registered a formal case against revenue officers namely Sonu Pargal, the then Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Samba, Raghubir Sharma, the then Naib Tehsildar Ghagwal and others.
They have been booked under Section 5(1) (d) read with Section 5 (2) of Jammu and Kashmir Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 120-B RPC at Police Station Anti-Corruption Bureau Jammu.
According to an official handout, the case was registered on the basis of verification conducted pursuant to a written complaint lodged by one Amit Mahajan regarding corruption done by Sonu Pargal, the then ACR Samba during 2015 (presently ACR Udhampur).
During the verification, it came to the fore that Sonu Pargal, the then ACR Samba and Raghubir Sharma, the then Naib Tehsildar Ghagwal under a well designed plan and by abusing their official position demanded and accepted the bribe amounting to Rs 1.95 crore and Rs 38.50 lakh respectively from the father of complainant for acquisition of land measuring 495 kanals falling under Khasra No.376/323, 516, 496, 682/179 of village Sungawali belonging to complainant and his brother for BSF at enhanced rates of Rs 10 lakh per kanal instead of actual cost of Rs 4.80 lakh per kanal.
The acquisition proceedings could not be matured with respect to the land of the complainant and after refusal by the BSF authorities for acquisition, Sonu Pargal, the then ACR Samba on repeated requests of the complainant returned the bribe money accepted by him to the complainant.
However, Raghubir Sharma, the then Naib Tehsildar did not return the bribe money accepted by him. On the prima-facie establishment of allegations, Anti-Corruption Bureau registered a formal case under relevant section of law and also conducted simultaneous raids with the help of local police /magistrates at the residences/offices of accused persons in presence of independent witnesses.
Detailed and in-depth scrutiny of the seized record will be carried out during further course of investigation by sleuths of Anti-Corruption Bureau, Jammu.
