RAMBAN, Dec 31: JKPCC chief G A Mir has said that Congress party would never compromise its core ideology and fundamental issues of people of three regions besides ensuring equal share and equitable development of all parts of the State.
Addressing a party convention at Ramban constituency along with AICC Secretary Dr Shakeel Ahmed Khan and senior leaders of the party, Mir said that unlike Congress, BJP and PDP entered into an opportunist alliance for the sake of power and compromised their core issues for the sake of power.
“It was the most opportunist and unnatural alliance in the history, which proved to be disaster for the State. The prevailing atmosphere of uncertainty and chaos in the State and the deteriorated security situation is the result of their opportunist politics for power and failure of BJP-PDP alliance which has left the people of the State in great sufferings,” he alleged and added that it was a challenging situation for the mainstream parties to retrieve the normal democratic atmosphere, which prevailed in the year 2014, when the last Assembly elections were held.
Mir said that maintaining and restoring faith of the people in the ballot and the success of the democratic process is always a challenging task in the State in the wake of gun and separatist forces and none should play politics of the kind which weakens the institution of democracy in J&K. “Congress always struggled to empower democracy at all levels and decentralize power to the grass root institutions to strengthen the belief of people in democracy. The implementation of 73rd & 74th amendments in the provisions of State laws was ensued by the Congress party while sharing power with NC, with the sole aim to empower grass root democratic institutions in the State. But previous PDP-BJP Govt tried to dilute these provisions,” he said.
Dr Shakeel Ahmed Khan, Secretary AICC, in his address, lashed out at BJP for a motivated campaign against Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, for their political vested interests, by distortions and misleading facts. “Pt Nehru’s historical role in the pre and post Independence cannot be ignored by those who are aware of history but regretted at the falsehood and fake propaganda by the BJP,” he said and asked party cadres to gear up for the upcoming Lok Sabha & Assembly elections in the State and defeat the nefarious designs of communal and divisive forces in the State.
Prominent leaders, who spoke, include Vikar Rasool, Ashok Dogra, Sham Lal Bhagat, Farooq Katoch-(Dist president Ramban), and others.
