JAMMU, Dec 31: While terming the decision of State Governor, Satya Paul Malik to withdraw the order of disarming VDCs, State BJP general secretary, Dr Narinder Singh termed it a step in right direction and said that those willing to sacrifice their lives for motherland must be encouraged and not disarmed.
Allowing weapons with Village Defense Committee (VDC) members will refresh ray of hope in minority community braving grave threats, he said in a statement here, today.
Dr. Narinder Singh said that a sense of fear prevailed upon the families of the minorities living in the difficult terrain of the region after an order was passed by the J&K Government to disarm the VDCs. He said that the VDCs have played a crucial role in containing the demon of terrorism in the higher reaches of mountainous terrain of the region. He said that VDC members played a pro-active role in thwarting the militant activities in their villages, aided operations by security agencies in their vicinities and shouldered responsibilities to help security forces in every means they could. And this was not for money, but actually for the love of their motherland and their sense of duty, love and affection for their near and dear ones. Moreover the dire desire to save their villages from becoming mass graveyards by foreign aided and heavily armed terrorists, Dr. Singh said.
The BJP leader hailed Governor, Satya Paul Malik and the authorities for withdrawing the decision to take back the weapons from the VDCs, as earlier decision had resulted into the widespread resentment among the minorities especially in Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban. He said that it is good that the administration is finally only withdrawing weapons from those who have some sort of criminal record or are incapacitated. He also lauded the move in which it has been decided that the VDCs be strengthened to more efficient level by imparting them trainings, as there have been calculated visuals, that focused attempts are being made to revive militancy in these areas which is also evident with the gruesome killing of BJP senior leader Anil Parihar and his brother.
