Excise Deptt tightens noose on cement smugglers, recovers Rs 2 lakh as Toll Tax

JAMMU, Jan 4: During an enforcement drive carried out by Excise team of Toll Post, Lakhanpur comprising of Sandeep Gupta, Excise and Taxation Officer, Bilal Kripak, Inspector, Kanwaljeet Shan, Sub-Inspector and assisted by Varinder Pawar, Excise and Taxation Officer, Minor Toll Posts, nakas were laid at Kote Punnu, Chabba Chak, Haria Chak and Gandyal area of district Kathua during last week.
During the week long drive, cement vehicles bearing numbers PB06M-283O,JK21-9619,JK08-8194,all Mahindra pick-ups and a Tractor Trolley laden with 50 bags,44 bags,46 bags and 220 bags of cement respectively without payment of Toll Tax were seized and fine amounting to Rs.32,560/-,29,260/-,30,360/-and Rs.1,24,080/-,amounting to a total of Rs.2,16,26O/- was recovered from the tax evaders.
The nakas led to seizure of two more vehicles laden with used motor oil found without payment of Toll tax. Fine of Rs.35,86O/- was recovered from the vehicles.
The whole operation was supervised by Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post, Lakhanpur, Ashish Kumar Gupta, under instructions of Excise Commissioner, Talat Parvez Rohella. The Excise Commissioner lauded the achievements of the team and directed the Toll Post to step up its vigil to defeat the nefarious designs of toll evaders and smugglers.
