SRINAGAR, Jan 4: The separatist leaders and the heads of various religious bodies today said that sacrilege of the Jamia Masjid has hurt the sentiments of the people and it won’t be tolerated at any cost.
In their address, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik on the occasion of Yaumi Taqadus shed light on the sanctity of Masjid, its pulpit in the light of Islamic perspective stating that the incident that took place last Friday has hurt the religious and emotional sentiments of people across Kashmir and that the act deserves condemnation at all levels.
The leaders said that the attempt to desecrate the pulpit of grand Masjid was aimed at damaging the Kashmir struggle that is purely indigenous in nature.
The leaders said some anti-Islamic elements are hell-bent to divide the people of Kashmir on religious, ideology and sectarian lines.
Terming the last Friday’s attempt to desecrate the Jamia Masjid pulpit as very unfortunate, the leaders said that ever since the conspiracies were hatched against the grand Masjid, late Mirwaiz Moulana Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq (RA), Mirwaiz Umar Farooq since his childhood stood against all odds and fought the conspiracies with full might with the active support of people of Kashmir.
They said that Jamia Masjid is the Central masjid of Kashmir and protection of its pulpit is the primary responsibility of every single citizen of Kashmir.
The leaders clarified that no offer for the unconditional talks came from the GoI as claimed by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, today said that the Government never officially invited the separatists for talks.
He was reacting to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s statement in Parliament.
Geelani said that Centre is scared of any meaningful dialogue with Hurriyat and Pakistan. “The sole intention of the delegation was to act as firefighting just to derail and fizzle out the momentum through these age old tactics, as they have been doing whenever Kashmiris stood up for their basic rights,” he said.
He said that in a similar situation of 2010, “we have warmly welcomed every delegation and had threadbare discussion, but they never responded back”.
