SRINAGAR, Jan 5: Air traffic remained suspended on Saturday from Srinagar International Airport, since Friday, due to poor visibility and snowfall. ”The runway is under snow and visibility is very poor,” an official of the Airport said.
Snow clearance operation on the runway has been started though it was still snowing. No flight could operate so far due to very poor visibility and snow, he said.
The air traffic will be resumed once snow on the runway is cleared and visibility improved, he further said. All flights were cancelled from Friday afternoon, the official said.
However, the Friday morning flights operated normally, he added. Passengers were very disappointed after they were informed that air traffic remained suspended.
Some passengers said that they were scheduled to appear in the interviews at New Delhi while others claimed they had appointment with doctors.
A number of traders said passengers travelling from Srinagar airport face similar situation every winter and government has failed to address this issue.
Light to moderate rain and snow would occur during the next 24 hours at many places in Kashmir valley under the influence of a Western Disturbance (WD), which is active in the region, a Met department spokesperson said.
However, the weather will improve from Sunday, he added. (UNI)
