JAMMU, Jan 8: State unit of Bhartiya Janta Party has termed the Central Government move on 10 percent quota for economically weaker as a revolutionary decision in keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stated policy of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas.
While former minister and State BJP spokesperson Priya Sethi opined that had such a reservation for economically weak been in place since independence, no one would have been poor in India, the other State BJP spokesperson Brigadier Anil Gupta claimed that PM Modi has proved once again that his Government has the will and capacity to take bold and revolutionary decisions in larger public interest.
“Be it OROP, Demonetisation, Direct Benefit transfer, Jan DhanYojana or GST, Modi Government has gone ahead where the earlier Governments dithered fearing public backlash and electoral reverses,” said Brig Gupta.
He also accused the Congress of not fulfilling the promise of reservations for “economically weaker” contained in its manifesto of 2004. “Despite, the party being in power from 2004-14, it did not bother to bring any legislation to this effect proving that it lacked sincerity and resorted to such promises to win elections,” he alleged
Priya Sethi also alleged that the Congress party allowed poverty to increase, slums to develop, poor from upper cast to rot and clash with other sections of society because of its divisive politics to rule every section of society.
Maintaining that reservation to poor will not affect anyone and instead compensate others in a big way as this 10 percent quota will be in addition to existing reservation for which Constitutional amendment will be brought, she added that now children of weaker section of society from upper classes will also be getting jobs and their economic condition will also improve.
“This will also provide equal opportunities to underprivileged irrespective of their cast, creed, region or religion. The decision will also help good students to get their due share from the society and thousands of backward families from upper casts will be able to see their wards getting Government jobs which in turn will change their lives forever,” she said.
