Gen Category Forum describes 10% quota as Modi’s historical decision

JAMMU, Jan 9: Describing the decision of Modi Govt to provide 10 % reservation to the weaker sections of `upper classes’ as historical, General Category Peoples Forum (GCPF), Jammu said that it would strengthen the National unity and brotherhood.
In a meeting of the General Category Forum held here today under the chairmanship of Raj Kumar Banathia, the members discussed in detail the revolutionary and historic decision of the Modi Government to provide 10 percent reservation in jobs and admissions in the professional colleges/ institutions to the poor/ economically backward people of general categories.
Prof Yash Paul Sharma, president of the Forum said that this decision of Modi Govt would extend benefits of reservation to the people who are needy and deserving irrespective of caste, creed, sex, religion and it would end severe injustice being done to the poor of unreserved category for the last over 70 years. He said this decision would strengthen national unity and brotherhood. This is the ultimate step towards creation of casteless and classless society, Sharma maintained.
General secretary Som Nath Sharma demanded abolition of caste-based reservation in the country and suggested to bring all the poor people irrespective of caste and religion under this category by enhancing quota. Such move will bring equality among Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and others in terms of reservation in the country. He warned various political parties not to exploit people on caste and religion basis and lure them for quota. He also said that reservation of constituencies was against the Fundamental rights of the people and such system should be abolished immediately in the country.
Other members including VK Sharma, Bhushan Pargal, Ravi Sawhney, Deepak Khajuria, Jagdish Kumar, Capt Tulsi Dass, Kewal Krishan and Vivek Singh also spoke on the occasion.
