JAMMU, Feb 2: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief spokesperson and renowned Oncologist Dr Sameer Koul has demanded audit of Prime Minister’s Relief Package for Kashmiri Pandits in Jammu and Kashmir alleging misuse of the same.
He also demanded further enhancement of cash relief for the KP migrants and a permanent solution of Unique Identification number Card to the community members residing outside Jammu and Kashmir so that they may not lose voting right here.
“There is visible non-judicious and half hearted approach of the State Government towards implementation of the PM relief package whether it is for temporary settlement of the migrants or employment to them,” he said while talking to media persons, here today.
While elaborating, Dr Samir alleged that the KP migrants have been deprived of basic amenities in the newly developed temporary settlement colonies while only 1485 youth have been provided jobs against the target of 6000 under the package. ” People in the settlement colonies have no access to safe drinking water, schools, hospitals etc while the State Government has adopted an insensitive attitude towards the same for the reasons best known to the persons at the helm of affairs,” he said and alleged misuse of funds.
Terming the current security situation in Jammu and Kashmir as eerie silence, the PDP chief spokesperson alleged that J&K has virtually been converted into a police State like Pakistan under Army rule.
“I am not worried about the situation on border with Pakistan but about suppression of people who are not being allowed to raise their voice for basic needs such as water, electricity, roads etc,” he said and accused the Government of creating a misconception that every Kashmiri Muslim was pro-Pakistan. “Suppressive attitude of the State Government towards commoners may trigger Egypt like situation in J&K,” he feared.
Toeing the party line for handing over Amarnath Yatra arrangements to Kashmir Pandits, Dr Samir Koul parried reply on duration of the pilgrimage and development of track to the holy cave shrine. “Since we (Kashmiri Pandits) have been kept out of the management affairs, how can I comment on these,” he told the media persons.
The PDP leader also preferred to play safe on the forceful ban on a rock group in Kashmir valley by some fundamentalists and said that code of conduct and code of dress need to be maintained. “Elders should understand needs of youngsters while the latter should also recognize that change does not come suddenly,” he said.
