‘Faesal could deliver better as an officer’

JAMMU, Jan 12: Governor Satya Pal Malik said today that militants including Hizbul Mujahideen supremo Syed Salah-ud-Din were frustrated due to peaceful and smooth conduct of Panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir and were directing their cadre “to do something” but maintained that due to support and cooperation of the people, situation was normal in the Kashmir valley.
He said a befitting reply is being given to Pakistan by the Army on the Line of Control (LoC) and the troops have successfully contained infiltration by the militants on the borders. He also referred to IAS officer Shah Faesal’s decision to quit services and join politics saying he doesn’t know what Faesal will do if he couldn’t do his duties despite taking oath. He added that Faesal could deliver better as an officer than a politician.

The outspoken Governor again took exception to lavish spending on marriages by the businessmen and affluent class. Without naming recent much publicized marriage of billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s daughter, he said the businessmen will spend Rs 700 cr on marriage but will not do charity.
“The girls are wearing ‘Lehangas’ worth Rs 10 lakh in the marriages. And this `Lehanga’ is worn only once as the girls can’t walk after wearing it. But they (the businessmen) will not donate or do any charity,” he said pointing out that Microsoft Company in Europe gives 99 percent of its earnings for charity.
This was for the second time that Malik hit hard on expensive marriages by the businessmen. Earlier also, he had targeted Ambani, without naming him, for spending Rs 700 crore on the marriage of his daughter.
In a brief chat with media persons after addressing a function on Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary at Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Charitable Hospital at Ambphalla, Malik said the troops have been giving very befitting and effective response to Pakistan’s misadventure on the borders.
Replying to a question on yesterday’s BAT attack on Army by Pakistan in Rajouri district in which an Army Major, a jawan and one porter were martyred, Malik said the Army’s reply to Pakistan has been very strong and effective and it is given immediately after any such misadventure by the enemy troops.
“The infiltration has been well under control. Pakistan has been frustrated because of successful conduct of Panchayat elections in the State. Hizbul Mujahideen supremo Syed Salah-ud-Din has been asking to terrorists to do some acts, which they are unable to do,” Malik said.
He added that the Government has been getting support and cooperation from the people in Kashmir due to which, peace has been maintained.
Replying to another question on Kashmiri Pandit migrants, Malik said the Government was concerned about them and will do something. However, he didn’t elaborate.
Late in the evening, the Governor issued a written statement on Dr Shah Faesal’s decision to quit services.
Describing Faesal as an “efficient and dedicated officer”, who rendered his services with great zeal and enthusiasm for the welfare of the State and its people particularly belonging to weaker sections of the society, Malik said: “In case he would continue his services as an IAS officer he could serve the people of society in a better way. As far as his feelings about Kashmiris are concerned he could be posted in the region for extending his fullest support in ameliorating the poverty and creating job opportunities for the youth of the Valley so that people would be prosperous and would lead a better life”.
Terming the decision to join politics by Shah Faesal as his personal, the Governor observed he could have done better even otherwise. “He (Shah Faesal) has to consult the youth to know their aspirations and try to create a new platform for the redressal of problems and grievances of youth.”
He said Faesal could deliver better as an officer rather than as a politician.
He, however, observed that it is not necessary for him to suggest Shah Faesal what he has to do in future even though his best wishes were always with him. “I would love to meet him if he comes to me for redressal of problems of youth”.
The Governor also voiced concern over some persons wearing ‘Gherua’ clothes (as Swami Vivekananda would wear) but indulging in heinous crimes.
“Half a dozen such people (who wear ‘Gherua’ clothes are in the jail for such crimes, which I can’t even mention,” he said.

Paying rich tributes to the great thinker and philosopher, Swami Vivekananda, the Governor observed that he had great vision who lived a life of a saint and worked selflessly for the betterment of the society. He said that the youth should seek inspiration from his teachings.
Lauding the healthcare services being provided by the Charitable hospital, Malik observed that the establishment of such a hospital was a befitting tribute to the philosophy of practical Vedanta, which was advocated by Swamiji.
He appreciated Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, president SVMMCH and its governing body for its devoted endeavours by starting a one-room dispensary about five decades ago and making it a well-run hospital today.
He lauded the efforts of the governing body for providing medical and diagnostic facilities, particularly to the poor, on highly subsidized rates or free of cost. He urged the society to contribute magnanimously for the noble cause so that it could do the best for alleviating the sufferings of the poor and the disadvantaged.
Presenting the annual report of SVMMCH for the year 2018-19, Atma Swaroop Gupta, informed that the institution organized free medical, dental check-up and BMD camps from time to time. As many as 72894 OPD, 56723 X-ray, USG and ECG, besides 1969 surgeries were conducted during the period, he added.
Welcoming the Governor, Prof Gupta, former Union Minister and president of SVMMCH, briefed the gathering about the functioning of the hospital and its future plans. He said that the charitable hospital has been providing better healthcare to needy. He also appreciated the doctors and paramedics of the charitable hospital for extending healthcare with devotion and dedication.
Among those present on the occasion were faculty members, para-medics and prominent citizens.
