Several issues figure in Ward No. 53

JAMMU: Water scarcity, deplorable condition of lanes and drains and sewerage problem are the main issues, which the residents of Ward Number 53 are facing.
Apart from aforesaid issues, the residents ‘particularly’ morning and evening walkers raised the issue of parks in the Wards, which according to them are in deplorable condition and need immediate attention.
“We face numerous issues during morning and evening walks in the parks in our Ward. The parks should be developed for the benefit of masses especially children”, Mohan Lal, a resident said.
The ward comprised Vasant Vihar, Bhawani Vihar, Kho Wali Gali, Garden Estate and Sector 1, 2 and 3 of Trikuta Nagar.
In this ward, the people faced manifold issues ‘particularly’ that of shortage of drinking water. Irregular supply of drinking water creates problem for the people especially women folk.
“Water is not being supplied on daily basis in our wards, which creates problems for us”, Suman Lata, a housewife said.
Lanes and drains in this ward also need attention of the authorities. Choked drains has led to sewerage problems and also created health hazards.
In our ward, the lanes and drains need to be repaired immediately. Choked drains should be cleaned for the free flow of water, which comes out of the houses”, a group of residents said, adding that dumping of garbage is the major issue, which the Corporator should take care of.
“The insanitary condition in our ward need immediate attention as it is the issue to be redressed on priority due to fear of breaking out of health related problems”, another resident said, adding that more manpower is required to tackle the insanitary issue.
Damaged street lights have also created fear psychosis among the women folk of the ward.
“We can’t walk in the late hours in our Ward due to damaged street lights. These lights should be repaired in the shortest possible time for the convenience of the people especially women folk”, Madhu Sharma, a resident said.
When all these issues were taken up with the newly elected BJP Corporator of Ward Number 53 Jyoti Devi averred that people have given him mandate and it is her duty to redress all the issues in her Ward whether it is water scarcity, deplorable condiditon of lanes and drains or any other issues.
Regarding the development of the parks, Jyoti Devi said that the parks will be developed with all facilities for the benefit of the morning and evening walkers viz. “I will get the parks renovated through concerned department in the shortest possible time with all facilities including tracks for morning and evening walkers, washroom, open gym, etc”, she added.
On the subject of sanitation issue, she said door to door collection of garbage has been initiated as JMC has provided an auto to collect garbage, adding that a check will be kept on the people, who throw garbage in the open. “Those who throw garbage in open will be taken to task”, she added.
She further stated that CCTV cameras will be installed in the whole Ward to keep check over the thefts taking place in the Ward and check over drugs peddlers. Apart from this, a library will be established for the elders and the children, the Corporator maintained.
