NDA put UPA’s welfare measures for migrants in limbo: Cong

JAMMU, Jan 13: Former Minister and senior Congress leader, Peerzada Mohammed Sayeed today said that all steps taken by previous UPA Government at Centre and NC-Congress Government in the State were negated by the present NDA regime as it failed to take effective steps for the welfare of displaced people from Valley during their four and half year rule at Centre and in the State.
Peerzada was speaking at a convention organized by the migrants of Kokernag Constituency here, today.
Peerzada highlighted various welfare measures taken by then Manmohan Singh Government at Centre for the displaced people from Valley which included construction of 4000 tenements at different camps and Jagti, construction of quarters at various parts of the Valley for PM package employees, sanction of 6000 job package for displaced youth in Valley for their rehabilitation.
He said but no concrete steps were taken afterwards by the present dispensation at Centre to provide succor to the displaced people and assured that if Congress comes to power at Centre and in the State it will leave no stone unturned in settling the long standing problems of Pandits including their honourable and dignified return and rehabilitation.
On the occasion PDP leader and president of Minority Wing of Kokernag Constituency, Mahraj Krishan Bhat (retd) DySP joined Congress along with other supporters.
Peerzada said that Pandits who have always supported Congress in Valley are now returning to the party fold as they realised that Congress is the only party which is wedded to the cause of common masses.
C L Dhar, Sarpanch, Councilor, Parvinder Kour Hangloo, Bansi Lal and others were present on the occasion.
