Governor approves financial assistance in respect of 206 writers, artists

JAMMU, Jan 15: Governor of the State, who is also president of Jammu Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages (JKAACL), has approved Rs 61.80 lakhs under the financial assistance scheme in respect of 206 writers and artists of the State, including their dependents for the year 2016-17.
As per the recommendations of the Assessment Committee of the JKAACL, the Governor has approved financial assistance of Rs 2500 per month in favour of these writers and artists of the State who were found suitable for such assistance by the committee.
It may be mentioned here that every year JKAACL provides financial assistance of Rs 2500 per month to writers, artists and their dependents who are in indigent circumstances, after proper scrutiny by a designated committee.
Giving details, Secretary JKAACL, Dr Aziz Hajini said that the purpose of the scheme is to help distressed writers, artists and their dependents to overcome financial distress.
