JAMMU, Jan 15: CJM Samba Ajay Gupta today awarded 11 months imprisonment to Sanjeev Kumar, son of Subash Chander of Ward No 8 Kathua, who was facing trial in attempt to forgery case.
After hearing Senior PO Anil Saini for the State, the court observed, “as the accused has made the volunteer confession and has prayed for a lenient view to be taken in his favour the punishment should be only to reform the accused and to make him understand that he should not repeat the offence in future”.
“Moreover this has been a first folly on the part of the accused as no previous conviction has been pleaded or proved against him. The accused is already remained in custody for the last eleven months and twenty five days as he has failed to produce bail bond with surety and personal for releasing him on bail”, the court said.
Accordingly, accused was convicted for the offence under Section 420/511 of RPC and sentenced to undergo a simple imprisonment for the period of eleven months.
